Private-Pay Physical Therapy FAQ

What are the benefits of private-pay vs. insurance-based therapy?

Private-pay services paid up-front provide full cost transparency, eliminating any unexpected bills after services are rendered. While insurance-based healthcare offers certain advantages, it often comes with limitations that can hinder optimal practices and outcomes for both providers and patients. Private-pay therapy benefits, particularly in home physical therapy, grant therapists greater freedom and autonomy to treat their patients without restrictions, ultimately enhancing the overall experience and effectiveness of physical therapy.

Do I need a referral from a doctor for physical therapy with Drive PT?

Although it is recommended in some instances for you to see a doctor prior to starting home physical therapy, Massachusetts is a direct access state, meaning you do NOT require a referral for Drive PT to work with you. Since I do not accept insurance, the usual wait times to start your physical therapy are drastically reduced. We can begin THIS week instead of the typical 2-3 months most people have to wait to finally see a PT. This means you can take advantage of the private-pay therapy benefits, minimizing physical therapy costs and getting the care you need sooner.

Does private-pay mean I have to pay cash?

Not at all! We accept Venmo, Zelle, credit cards, checks, and HSA/FSA cards for your home physical therapy sessions. Additionally, I can provide you with a superbill that you may submit to your health insurance for possible reimbursement if you have 'out of network' benefits. Please note that I am not enrolled with Medicare, so you will not be able to submit any bills to Medicare for any type of reimbursement. This way, you can easily manage your physical therapy costs while also understanding the private-pay therapy benefits.

How much do sessions cost and how long are they?

All sessions are 1 hour long, spent one-on-one with my undivided face-to-face attention. You will not see my eyes glued to a computer screen at all during the session. This personalized approach is one of the many benefits of private-pay therapy, which allows for focused care tailored to your needs.

These physical therapy costs reflect the quality and attention given during home physical therapy sessions.

Can I be treated elsewhere other than my home?

Absolutely! As long as the location you prefer for home physical therapy consents to you being treated there and there is adequate space, you can proceed. Additionally, it's worth considering the physical therapy costs and understanding the private-pay therapy benefits when making your decision.

How far do you travel?

I provide home physical therapy services within 20 miles of South Plymouth, though I can negotiate for further travel if needed. This ensures that you can access effective therapy while being aware of physical therapy costs and the private-pay therapy benefits that come with personalized care.

What equipment do you bring with you to a session?

It definitely depends on what I am treating you for, but I can provide various tools for your home physical therapy sessions, including a portable treatment/massage table, multiple resistance bands, ankle weights, hand weights, a BOSU ball, a foam roller, an agility ladder, kinesiotape, a thermal massage gun, a cupping kit, acupuncture needles for dry needling, and of course, my hands! Believe it or not, many effective exercises can easily be accomplished with items you have at home, making private-pay therapy benefits even more accessible while keeping physical therapy costs manageable.

How long will it take for me to get better?

Without a crystal ball and considering the various factors that influence a person's recovery, the national average for physical therapy costs is about 12 visits per patient over a 2-3 month period. In my practice, particularly with home physical therapy, I usually aim for significantly fewer sessions than this average. However, my focus is more on your overall progress rather than just the numbers, highlighting the private-pay therapy benefits that come with personalized care.

Are you insured?

Yes, I am fully insured under my Professional Liability insurance with CNA Insurance Companies, which allows me to offer home physical therapy services. This insurance also helps cover various physical therapy costs, ensuring clients can access the private-pay therapy benefits they need.
